DIRECT SCHOOL ADMISSION-SECONDARY EXERCISE 2020

The Direct School Admission-Secondary (DSE-Sec) Exercise allows students to seek admission to secondary school based on a diverse range of interests and talents. Parents and students are encouraged to choose schools wisely based on the students’ aptitudes and strengths, bearing in mind the school’s academic and non-academic requirements, and the programmes available to develop the area of talent.Greenridge Secondary School (GSS) invites parents/guardians with a child/ward seeking admission to Secondary One in 2021 to apply to the school through DSA-Sec.

In GSS, we offer the following talent areas through DSA-Sec as a tie in with our Applied Learning Programme in EL & MTL and our Learning for Life Programme in the Arts:
  • Debate and Public Speaking (English Language)
  • Mother Tongue Languages (Chinese Language/ Malay Language/ Tamil Language)
  • Chinese Orchestra
  • Visual Art
Successful applicants will enjoy a range of developmental opportunities to nurture their interests and develop their skills in the talent area offered to them. Your child / ward can look forward to opportunities to:

Is Your Child/Ward Eligible to Apply for DSA-Sec to GSS?

All applicants eligible for Secondary One in 2021 may apply.

All International Students are to register and take part in the Admission Exercise for International Students (AEIS) before they can be considered for DSA-Sec admission.   For the different talent areas, GSS is looking for students with the following qualities:

Debate and Public Speaking (English Language)

Demonstrate competency in the English Language, interest and motivation in public speaking, as well as positive personal dispositions and learning attitudes.

 

 

 

Mother Tongue Languages

Demonstrate competency, interest and motivation in Chinese Language / Malay Language / Tamil Language, as well as positive personal dispositions and learning attitudes.

 

Visual Art

 

Demonstrate artistic potential, interest and motivation in the art form, as well as positive personal dispositions and learning attitudes.

How Will Your Child/Ward Be Selected?

GSS will conduct a shortlisting of applicants following the DSA-Sec application period (18 June to 10 July 2020).

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend a video conference selection exercise between 1 July to 14 September 2020.

Debate and Public Speaking (English Language)

·  Performance task: Applicant will have to plan and deliver a speech on a

   topic that will be given to the candidate during the session

·  Relevant achievements and experiences

Mother Tongue Languages

·  Performance task: Applicant will have to read an article given. Applicant

   will also have to plan and deliver a speech on a topic that will be given to

   the candidate during the session

Visual Art

·  Time-based exercise: Applicant will have to create an artwork on a

   theme that will be given to the candidate during the session

·  Relevant achievements and experiences

·  Interview

Chinese Orchestra

 

·  Performance task: Applicant will have to perform 2 contrasting pieces 

   on the Chinese instrument for a total duration of 3- 5 minutes

Application Procedure for DSA-Sec to GSS

1. Application for DSA-Sec can be submitted through the online DSA-Sec Portal. The application is free-of-charge and will be open from 12 May 2020 to 5 Jun 2020. For more details, please refer to MOE website – www.moe.gov.sg/dsa-sec.
(For non-mainstream school students and international students, parents should apply online for a Registration Number, so they can apply through DSA Portal. This is done using an online form via MOE DSA Website.)

2. Interested applicants can choose a maximum of two talent areas from GSS.

3. GSS will contact all shortlisted applicants from 1 July 2020 onwards. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend our video conference selection exercise from 1 July to 14 September 2020.

(For returning Singaporeans and non-mainstream students in foreign system schools and private education institutions who are shortlisted for selection, a placement test will be conducted as part of the selection phase to assess the applicants’ course suitability.) 

4. GSS will inform shortlisted applicants of the outcome of their application by 14 September 2020. Each successful applicant can only be offered one talent area in DSA-Sec to the school.

5. Successful applicants will be admitted to GSS if they: 
    • indicate GSS during their School Preference Submission (26 to 30 October 2020)
    • qualify for an academic course offered by GSS – Express, N(A), N(T) – based on their PSLE results

6. Students who are successfully admitted to the school via DSA are expected to honour their commitment to the school, and participate in the activities related to the talent they are selected for from Secondary 1-4/5.
