In the Department of English Language and Literature of GSS, we aim to develop our Greenridgeans to become:

We create opportunities for students to:

Imagine possibilities and perspectives through immersive and engaging activities such as role-play, hot-seating, and drama

Discover a variety of themes, topics and perspectives through reading and viewing a range of texts, and conducting independent research

Express themselves and share their opinions confidently during group discussions, debates and presentations, as well as in their writing

Students embark on learning journeys to the theatre that bring their Literature texts to life.
As part of their submission to the National Schools’ Literature Festival, students created their own book trailer of the play ‘Don’t Know, Don’t Care”:

In July 2023, Literature students from Upper Secondary participated in the Set Text Round Table, as part of the National Schools’ Literature Festival. In this competition, students from all over Singapore engaged in a spirited and robust discussion on their literature text together. Students who participated in this competition are:
- LI GUO (3-9’2023)
- NUR SYAIDINA DANIYA BINTE SAID (4-10’2023), who was also awarded the “Engaging Diplomat Award”
Upper Secondary Literature students had the opportunity to watch a film adaptation of their Literature text, Boom, and engage the Director, Mr Derrick Chew, in a dialogue session about the themes, characters and artistic interpretation of the play.
